Living together in rural areas

The study for the German Council for Sustainable Development examines the sustainability aspects of dense living in rural areas with the qualities of the single-family house in the Ammersee region.Housing shortages and rising land and construction prices in the state capital are also increasing settlement pressure on the metropolitan region. Increased networking in society is increasingly leveling our location. The desire for a sustainable lifestyle and for land, air, light, are also leading to suburbanization. Increasing urban sprawl and growing land and energy consumption are not compatible with sustainable development. Existing dense forms of housing in rural areas are mostly speculative in character and have low living qualities with prices remaining high, as profits made are not passed on to the users. Our vision is to develop a type of housing for rural areas that is oriented towards socio-cultural development, takes it up and implements it spatially. Living space for a Generation Y that is networked, flexible and mobile, in which status is losing importance and increasing individualization and self-realization as well as responsible behavior towards the environment and fellow human beings are gaining in importance and increasingly displacing the meritocracy.
